The Parish Council held a site meeting at the Recreation Ground on Wednesday, 4th July 2007 to discuss possible locations for a refurbished play area in the recreation ground. The map below shows the areas that have been considered with annotations as to their suitability before deciding on those to be included in the survey.

Location (I) lacks visiblity and these were the grounds for looking at converting this to an area for older children and moving the play area to an alternative location. However an option is to refurbish the existing site and remove the trees and bushes in front of the play area to improve visibility.

Location (H) has been discounted on 2 grounds.
1. The use of an existing tennis court would undermine the policy to re-establish a tennis club in Tongham
2. The removal of a sporting facility is contrary to Government sports policy in promoting 2012

Location (G) has been discounted on health and safety grounds due to a lack of visibility from other areas.

Location (F) requires the movement of the storage container to another location.

Location (E) has been discounted on health and safety grounds for being too close to the cricket square.

Location (D) is on the site of the existing Scout Hut. The Scouts are looking to re-locate to a larger site but timescale is uncertain and a play area on this site would be on hold until that re-location takes place.

Location (C) has been discounted on 2 grounds.
1. Health and safety grounds for being too close to the existing football pitch.
2. Shape - it is too thin an area to provide a practical location
