Young People's Chess Club Kicks Off  

Starting Saturday 29th Sept 1330-1530, A FREE Young Person’s Chess Club for 8-15 year olds at Stoneleigh Library’s Community Room. No need to book but spaces are limited.

LEGO Card Swap Events

Once again, Stoneleigh Library is hosting FREE LEGO card swapping events to give local children a chance to complete their collections.

 

Sainsburys have been running a promotion giving away LEGO Incredible Inventions trading cards free with your shopping. This is a chance to swap these cards with other collectors.

 

We are putting on  two swap events;

 

Friday 26th October 10.00 - Noon

 

Saturday 17th November 1.30 - 3.30pm

 

 

FREE refreshments will be provided.

 

No need to book, just show up with a list of card numbers you need and any spare cards you have to swap.


 
   
100th Anniversary of the end of WW1 Display  

 

Single Wild Poppy

 

The Crafty Reading Group are making a poppy display to commemorate the end of World War One. There'll also be a display in our community room with information about four men from Stoneleigh who died in WW1 plus appropriate books on display.

 
   
Local History Evening: Stoneleigh House & The Stone Family  

 
On 14th November 7.00-9.00pm we're hosting a FREE history talk and exhibition in the library.

 

Pocket Watch

 

Come along to find out about the early history of the development of Stoneleigh through the story of John Jeffries Stone and his family.


Discover more about the location of Stoneleigh house which gave Stoneleigh it's name and its changing function from farmhouse to gentleman's residence, private nursing home to hospital and the people who lived and worked there.


This will be an illustrated talk plus an exhibition of photographs and maps.

 

This free event includes refreshments.

Regular Events and Activities
Monday Storybox: (Term Time Only)  

Stories and crafts with a different theme each week. Suitable for children aged from 18 months up to 4 years accompanied by a parent or carer.

 

Storybox runs during term-time only on Mondays 10.00 - 11.00 am, however, there are often Storybox special events over half-term and other holidays.

 

Please Note: There is NO Storybox on Monday 1st October 2018 due to volunteers being away on  holiday that week.

Friday and Saturday Rhymetimes: (  

Library rhymetime sessions are aimed at babies and toddlers, aged under five, along with their parents and carers. The events are based entirely on sharing nursery rhymes, action songs and percussion music. It is fun, interactive and noisy! Friday Rhymetime includes stories.

 

Fridays      14:00 - 14:30
Saturdays  11:15 - 11:45

 

Friday Rhymetime will be finishing for the summer on 20th July, however Saturday Rhymetime will continue during the holidays.

 

 
   
Creative Writing Group:  

This small but welcoming group meets meets monthly on a Friday 14:30 - 15:45 and is for anyone interested in improving their creative writing skills, even if they have not much writing experience. Any pieces submitted will be read and then sympathetically discussed.
