Stoneleigh Community Library is a collaboration between Surrey County Council and the Friends of Stoneleigh Library - a charitable association specifically formed to ensure that Stoneleigh continues to have a vibrant community library which is an enriching and responsive resource for all.

Healthy Eating Fortnight


Monday 20th January to Monday 3rd February 2020

To help our local community stay healthy, we are running a Healthy Eating Fortnight at the library. We have a great range of FREE activities and resouces including:



  • Talks to Inspire you by local speakers
  • Healthy Eating Themed Storytime
  • A great range of Healthy Living Books
  • Free Handouts
  • Children’s Quiz Trail

Talk: Food, Healthy Eating & Diabetes

Tuesday 28th January 2020, 3-4pm.


Presented By Laura Hunt

of  the Surrey Downs Diabetes UK Group.


This free talk is for anyone who is interested in lowering their risk of developing the condition as well as people with type 2 diabetes and their family and friends.


Lots of practical advice on meal planning and what to cook and buy.


This will be a free session and refreshments will be provided.


No need to book, just show up.


Vegan Morning & Talk

Saturday 1st February 2020, 10:30am - 12:30pm


We are holding a  Vegan Morning at the library on Saturday 1st February 10.30-12.30 There has been a lot of publicity during January about Vegan food and lifestyle - but is this all hype and come February everything will fade away?


If you want to find out more and discover what vegan food really tastes like and whether or not eating meat will really make a difference to you and the planet come to our special event.

There will be food to taste and free refreshments with plant-based kinds of milk to try.


Members of the Worcester Park Vegan Group will be on hand answering any queries you have.




On Saturday 1st Feb at  11am there will be a short presentation, "You are what you eat",  by Reema Ajmera in our community room about the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle.


Reema is a local environmentalist, as well as a parent of a local primary school child.


This will be a free session and refreshments will be provided


No need to book, just show up.

Regular Activities:
Monday Storybox:    

Stories and crafts with a different theme each week. Suitable for children aged from 18 months up to 4 years accompanied by a parent or carer. Storybox runs during term-time only on Mondays 10 - 11am, however there are often Storybox special events over half-term and other holidays.


Monday Storybox will restart for the Spring term on 13th January.

From 2020 please could you bring your own cup with a lid if you would like a tea or coffee at the session.

Friends of Stoneleigh are keen to reduce plastic    waste including use of polystyrene cups.

Lidded cups will also reduce any risk of spillage of hot drinks and promote health and safety during the session.


We will continue to provide water for children in reusable cups.




Saturday Rhymetimes: 

Library rhymetime sessions are aimed at babies and toddlers, aged under five, along with their parents and carers. The events are based entirely on sharing nursery rhymes, action songs and percussion music. It is fun, interactive and noisy!

Creative Writing Group: 

This small but welcoming group meets meets monthly on a Friday 14:30 - 16:00 and is for anyone interested in improving their creative writing skills, even if they have not much writing experience. Any pieces submitted will be read and then sympathetically discussed.


Next Meeting: Friday 14th February 2020.
