Welcome to the Spelthorne Neighbourhood Watch site.
What do we do?
Spelthorne Neighbourhood Watch (SNHW) has over 295 registered coordinators across the borough, who administer a watch. The role is not onerous and we always welcome new coordinators and watches so we can increase the number of homes covered (currently approx.12,890).
If you would like to know if a scheme is active in your area, contact us on the address below. If you are thinking of starting up a scheme, first step is to speak to your neighbours and find out if they are also interested. The more residents there are who want to get involved, the more successful a scheme will be. Not everyone in a street or neighbourhood needs to join a scheme for it to work. It will work as long as there are enough residents to keep an eye out for each other’s properties and to liaise with the police. Let us know by emailing the address at the bottom and we will provide information and guidance on setting up your watch.
What’s our history?
Started over 25 years ago and now the largest voluntary organisation nationally, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is a community initiative which relies on networking and alertness of neighbours. There’s an estimated 150,000 such schemes across the UK, covering upwards of six million people. It has been shown that NHW areas are less likely to be targeted by criminals and householders can qualify for reduced Insurance premiums.
We work closely with Surrey Police and our staff are based in the Spelthore BC offices. This means we have up-to-date information about our community and can pass this on to our coordinators. We and can also pass on your concerns and questions to those on “the beat” and feedback to the community we serve.
