The Spelthorne Community Arts Association can award grants to affiliated groups, and publishes a quarterly newsletter, called Arts News.
The Jubilee celebrations are now over and hopefully they were enjoyed by one and all, in spite of the weather!
We now move into a summer of sport with the Olympics and Paralympics. The Arts have always been part of Olympic movement and in fact the last Art competitions were held as part of the 1948 Summer Olympics in London. Medals were awarded in five categories (architecture, literature, music, painting and sculpture), for works inspired by sports related themes. Since then a non-competitive art and culture festival has been associated with each games. During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, London will be turned into a massive sporting and cultural venue. While Spelthorne may not have the international presence of London, there are no lack of events taking place covering flower shows, art shows, theatre and music to mention but a few.
Don’t forget that our A.G.M. is on 9th July at 8 p.m. at Spelthorne Museum. I hope that as many member groups as possible will be represented
MESSAGE FROM THE EDITOR OF ARTS NEWS
Please, please, please let me have copies for the Arts News. There seems to be less and less items coming in. The diary section is well used, but apart from a few regular contributers actual news of group activities are negligible, so let others know what you are up to and what your organisation is about or just a history of your group. It might even lead to increased membership.
