Our Elstead Campaign
Enhancing the Appearance and Image of the Village
The Christmas tree on the Green brought pleasure to many people and we are extremely grateful for your thanks and support.
Our vision is that in two to three years, Elstead will have more colour from flowers and shrubs around the village throughout the year. We hope this will make Elstead a prettier and even happier place. In 5 or 10 years, Elstead might even enter the Britain in Bloom competition. With this in mind, we need to start very soon – March is the planting season.
The good news is that many hands make light work! Three groups are planned to cover the Milford Road area, the Thursley Road area and the Village Green area. While the initial focus will be on planting and maintenance, these groups should also “look after” their area – organising litter picking, reporting over-hanging branches or brambles and even encouraging or helping neighbours prune hedges.
Everyone is invited to come for coffee and buns at the Youth Centre on Saturday February 9th between noon and 3pm to hear our plans. Experience shows a blitz at the beginning and end of the growing season will be best, together with a rota of weekly maintenance for watering and deadheading the flowers.
We have had a promise that, once these groups are organised and functioning, the Parish Council will pay for a barbecue for volunteers and their families at the Pavilion in mid-summer!
So do please come to the Youth Centre on Saturday February 9th between noon and 3pm and help make Elstead an even more magical place to live. We would also like to hear from the youth group and other groups who already collect litter etc. to coordinate our activities. Please email me if you cannot make that time.
