The 102nd Elstead Marathon took place on Friday July 4th in excellent running conditions, the rain holding out until all the runners had finished. It was a hugely popular Village event with 420 runners and almost as many spectators. The overall winner in the main race was Gary Peach of Elstead for the 3rd year running with an excellent time of 32 minutes 40 seconds, some 40 seconds faster than the 2nd placed runner, Tom Frost. Daniel Allaway was 3rd. The first lady was Isabelle Peters, with Donna Read and Susie Chan in 2nd and 3rd place.  The winner of the short race was Max Holland. He is also from Elstead, and he also won last year.  The first girl was Ellie Young, and yes, you guessed, she also won it last year and is from Elstead.  Many congratulations to them all.
This event is only possible thanks to the huge number of volunteers who help prepare for the event, lay out the course, and provide marshalling and refreshment facilities on the night. A huge thank you to all of them. We are also extremely grateful to our sponsors. Prides Farm shop and Chandlers garage. You may wonder what the sponsor does? Well they provide free meat in the case of Prides and fund all the medals, number plates, and winners’ trophies in the case of Chandlers. The donation from each of these parties runs into hundreds of £ each year; and they keep coming back for more! The Village and the Scouts owe them a real debt of gratitude. Finally of course a big thank you to the runners who really make the event what it is. We hope you enjoyed it!

There are two slight changes to the Marathon route:
1. The section where the lane from the top of Hookley Lane comes onto the Common now runs through the woods rather than along the permissive footpath at the edge of the field. This apples to both routes.
2. The section between Westbrook Farm and The Mill is variable, depending on the landowner's consent. This only affects the Long route.
