Go-Kan-Ryu Karate (GKR) is a traditional Japanese style of karate. GKR was founded by Robert Sullivan in Adelaide, South Australia. Robert first began training in the art of karate in 1964, and spent time training and teaching in both Japan and the USA before establishing GKR in 1984. 


GKR Karate is taught in a non-contact environment and promotes both character and physical development. GKR is a club for all ages and promotes self-defence, fitness, coordination, discipline, confidence and stress relief. 

People of all walks of life can train together and learn the art of karate in a safe, fun and encouraging environment.

According to BBC News Health pages, experts recommend exercises which improve strength and balance such as the Chinese martial art Tai Chi.

As further reported in The Telegraph, 'New joint advice from the British Geriatrics Society and the American Geriatrics Society, published today (WED), recommends that all methods of preventing falls "should include an exercise component". One suggestion is to take up tai chi, in which martial art movements are carried out in a slow, controlled fashion.'

 Wutan UK Tai Chi instructor Anita Ho is offering Tai Chi sessions at Tongham Village Hall on Monday evenings from 8 to 9 pm and on Wednesday mornings from 10.00 to 11.00. Come along and try some Tai Chi and Qigong, the Chinese systems of physical and mental training for health to improve your mind and body. Sessions cost £6 per session or £50 for ten if paid in advance.

Tokon Shotokan Karate Academy aims to provide the best training to suit everybody’s needs. This will be achieved by development of students, teaching them all the aspects of karate. This in turn will increase their fitness levels, stamina, confidence and body strength as well as learning control through regular disciplined lessons, training camps and courses with world recognized Japanese instructors.


The goal in the future is to develop a squad of students who will compete in regional, international and world competitions.
