Tandridge Neighbourhood Watch has over 200 coordinators across the district who administer a Watch for their road. The role is not onerous, and we always welcome new Watches to increase the coverage of homes, which currently stands at over 7000 households.
What is Neighbourhood Watch?
Recognised as the most effective voluntary scheme to reduce crime and the fear of crime, to build safer and more confident communities, and to improve the quality of life.
It is about you, your neighbourhood and the wider community working together with the local police to reduce crime and also to encourage communities to care.
Does it reduce crime?
Neighbourhood Watch is recognised as the most successful crime prevention initiative in the UK. All evidence shows that incidence of crime is lower within a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, and you are less likely to be burgled if you belong to an active watch scheme.
How do I join?
If there is not already a scheme in your road you may want to set one up. Your neighbours would have to be asked if they support the setting up of a scheme. If the majority agree then a launch can be arranged to create a scheme.
How much will it cost?
It costs nothing to join and there is no subscription. The setting up, crime prevention advice and literature is all provided free of charge, as are the window stickers and street signs.
