About Stoneleigh Community Library

Stoneleigh Community Library is a collaboration between Surrey County Council and the Friends of Stoneleigh Library - a charitable association specifically formed to ensure that, well into the future, Stoneleigh continues to have a vibrant community library which is an enriching and responsive resource for all.

From 16th February 2013 Stoneleigh Library remains open as a Surrey County Council staffed library, using rotating "bank" staff, however there is also a full complement of FSL volunteers present, fulfilling all library duties and continuing some ongoing training. Although it was originally intended that full volunteer running would commence from that date, this did not in fact happen due to a legal glitch with the building lease which is ongoing. Until this is finally resolved the library will officially remain in in the hands of the SCC staff. It is not known how long this situation will continue, but possibly not until mid 2014.

The library will be closed for three weeks for necessary building repairs and subsequent redecoration and cleaning. It will close on Saturday 17th May at 16:00 and then will reopen on Saturday 7th June at 09.30. No items will be due back during the closure period. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Forthcoming Events

Friends of Stoneleigh Library is planning lots of exciting events over the next couple of months for all ages so here are some dates for your diary. More information on all these events is on the Events page or on posters at the library.

Wednesday 23rd April, 3.00pm-7.00pm - Special Library Opening For World Book Night

The library will be open to everyone  to celebrate World Book Night and there will be a special display of books about the Tudors. We will be encouraging parents to bring their children down after school and commuters to drop into the library on their way home from work. From 7.30pm-9.30pm we will be having a ticketed author event (see below).

Wednesday 23rd April,  7.30pm-9.30pm  - "An Evening With Elizabeth Norton"

A special author event with a local archaeologist, historian and writer who specialises in the Tudor period. The evening will be informal  and will include a talk by the author on how she came to embark on writing, the journey towards publication and details about her book on Anne Boleyn. The evening will include plenty of time to ask questions and books will be available to borrow or purchase. Refreshments are included in the ticket price of £3 and tickets are available from the library. Spaces are limited so early booking is advisable. This is our first author event and we hope it will be a success

Friday 2nd May, 10:00-16:00 - "Meet the Stock Selectors"
This is your chance to tell us what books you would like to see in the library. They will be four members of the Surrey Library Service Stock Team at the library to listen to your views. So come down to the library, enjoy a coffee/tea and cake, and chat to us about what books you like and read, and want to see us get on our shelves.
