Adding a noticeboard page

A noticeboard is an item of content which is  “date-stamped”, and appears in a list arranged by date. You can view noticeboard items by clicking on the calendar date you are interested in on the Noticeboard page.

Using the noticeboard is a very effective way for you to disseminate news and items from your website. As with news, you have the option of adding entries, creating and reviewing draft entries, or managing individual web logs.

by clicking on 'Permalink' your user can link to this noticeboard item. A permalink (permanent link) is a type of website address designed to refer to a specific information item which will remain unchanged permanently, or at least for a lengthy period of time to prevent broken links.

Your users can comment on your noticeboard entry. They can click on 'Comment' to view comments made about the noticeboard entry. The number of comments made are displayed by the link. User can add their own comments by clicking on 'Add a comment'..

Clicking on 'Manage noticeboard' on the Noticeboard page gives you a list of Noticeboard functions.

Bookmarklet: By dragging the link in the bookmarklet to your browser's bookmarks toolbar it enables a keen blogger to create a blog item whenever they see something interesting. They just select the text then click on the link in their toolbar and it takes them straight to the "new blog entry" page with the selected text already filled in.

Blogroll: A webloggers term for a list of links to other weblogs (blogs) which contains things the author thinks are interesting and relevant. This page allows the blogger to manage the links to other blogs, which then appear on the main "Weblogs" page.

To enable the noticeboard page

  • Log in to your website
  • From home page select ‘Manage Website’ link
  • Click on ‘Create standard pages'
  • A list of standard pages will appear. Noticeboard - click the ‘Enable' link under the ‘Actions' heading
  • Under the ‘Enabled' heading it should now say ‘On’

 Adding a noticeboard entry

  • Select Noticeboard from the navigation menu found on your homepage
  • Click ‘Manage noticeboard' link
  • Click 'Add new noticeboard entry'
  • Create a title for your entry
  • If you noticeboard is related to another website page, then add the website address of that page to the 'Title URL'. Dont forget to add the http:// before the www.
  • Add the content of your noticeboard entry
  • Set the date for the noticeboard entry using the correct format: YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS
  • Click ‘OK’

Editing noticeboard entries

  • From the noticeboard page click on the 'edit' link underneath the displayed noticeboard entry
  • This will take you onto details of your noticeboard entry, click on ‘edit’
  • Make any changes and click ‘Ok’

Deleting noticeboard entries

  • From the noticeboard page click on the 'delete' link underneath the displayed noticeboard entry
  • It will ask you whether you are sure you want to delete the noticeboard.  Click ‘yes, delete it’
  • You will then be taken back to the noticeboard page. The entry will be removed.
