This project was set up for the purpose of redistributing affordable furniture. The project collects donations of furniture from within the Guildford Borough and then delivers the donations, for a small charge, to people on low income including those receiving benefits. This includes everything needed in a family home environment. These items include sofas, beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, cupboards, tables, chairs and many more. The project is also able to redistribute unwanted electrical items, which are kindly donated. Before being passed on these items are electrically tested for the charity by Robertson's Electrical Engineers to comply with stringent regulatory trading standards.

The Furniture Project delivers approximately 1000 household items a year, many of which would other wise find their way to landfill. On this note we would like to thank Guildford Borough Council Recycling Department for its great support in so many ways.

'The Team'

The Furniture Project at its heart has volunteers who do an amazing job delivering and collecting furniture all over the Guildford Borough. These volunteers mostly sourced from the local hostels within Guildford, are crucial to the project, which in turn helps them back to work. Some 40 volunteers have worked with the project since it started in May 2004. We would like to thank all the volunteers who are helping and have helped in making the Furniture Project such a success.

Similarly if you would like to donate any items of unwanted furniture or electrical goods or are on benefits and looking for affordable furniture or electrical goods please contact 01483 506504 and speak to Lorraine Hopkins, The Furniture Project Administrator. Finally we also take the opportunity to thank Mr Gribble of Papercourt Farm who has helped us enormously with our furniture storage problems. Without his help the Furniture project would not be the success it is now.

Our funding for this project has for the past three years has come from The Big Lottery Fund, this has now come to an end, we are anxious to find alternative sources of funding – if you think you could help us to continue our work in 2008/2009 please contact Charlie McCafferty on 01483 505227 or email charliemccafferty@guildfordaction.org.uk.

To leave a message with the Furniture Project please e-mail Lorraine at furnitureproject@guildfordaction.org.uk. If you are donating items of furniture please, if you can, attach photos of said items. Please note: any upholstered items of furniture must have the relevant safety fire tags ATTACHED.
