Drop-in Seaside Trip to Hayling Island

Guildford Action’s Drop-in Centre take their buckets & Spades to Hayling Island

The Drop-in centre had a day out in Hayling Island in June this year.  Taking a coach load of over 50 people, the weather was kind to us and we all made it there and back in one piece!!

It is the first time we have run such a trip for the drop-in and it was a huge success which we hope to repeat next year.Thank you to Richard Reakes and Scottie for there kind letters which are shown below.

Hayling Island

Scottie’s letter to the Drop-in Centre

Hayling Island Here we come!!

The Date has been set for the G.A.C.C coach outing to Hayling Island. The date being Wednesday 14th June 2006. The run up to this seems to linger ever so slowly, but the weeks and days of anticipation eventually pass and the day is now on us. The list of people who want to come on the trip changes on a daily basis. The regulars, old-timers (!), young, old and not so young, all met outside the Drop-in Centre at the appropriate time in a friendly, sociable and sober gathering. No one was late, what a great start to the day. Everyone was having a good chinwag and getting excited by the minute.

When we boarded the smart coach we were introduced to our driver of the day, Michael. Alix, The Drop-in Centre Manager, then issued a few basic rules, mostly about smoking, drinking and generally behaving themselves/ the trip down to Hayling Island didn’t seem to take long and before we knew it, we were there. During the journey you could hear plenty of jovial banter, people snoring, people bird watching (me)- (Scottie has an ornithological mind) and others listening to their musical whatnots. On leaving the coach we were all given a packed lunch, which was made up by Margaret, Carol and the rest of the G.A.C.C. staff. Sandwiches, fruit, crisps, a soft drink and boiled sweets. Thank you very much.

We all went off in different directions. Don and a friend went straight to a local tearoom (yea, right)!  others heading to a car boot sale which was right on the seaside. Bargains Galore. I frequented a snack bar for a Ryvita and soda water that was very refreshing, enough to last me the rest of the day. Richard Reakes and I then went for a gentle walk around the local area, which was nice, but quiet. The water seemed a touch too cold for most of the bunch but the sea air and breeze seemed to have a pleasing effect on most of us. .

The staff seemed to hang about together; a fearsome sight if ever there was one. At the arranged for departure yet again no one was late, amazing! Well done, everybody, you all deserve a pat on the back. On the journey home you could feel the relaxed mood exuding from everyone. A really lovely day out. A few slept on the journey, I counted the England car flags by the roadside and other rabbited away gleefully. Again no trouble. That’s the way it should be. Lastly. I would like to say a big Merci to ALL the staff for all their efforts and trust, in making this day a success (I am beginning to well up)! Especially Alix. Again thank you.

Yours truly,

Scottie

Here’s to the next outing- Viva La France!!

Richard Reakes Letter to The Drop-in

To the Staff of the Drop-in Centre, I would like to say a big thank you for organising the day trip to Hayling Island in June 2006. It has been a long time since I have had a day trip out; the weather was not too hot; not too cold- just right. It was friendly and a laugh and the meal was good and also the company was nice and enjoyable. We all really enjoyed the Car Boot Sale where I enjoyed brgain hunting for others.  I do not know what else to say except that I hope we can have another trip soon, either this year or next year.

From,

Richard Reakes.
