RHUL Master Plan
As part of their long-term plan to accommodate 50% of students on campus, RHUL unveiled on 8th June their “Master Plan” for development of the campus estate to 2031, by which time they anticipate student numbers to increase from the current 8,000 to 12,000. Their building plans, however, include removal of Green Belt status on the estate & possible development of Mrs Caddy’s Field, following purchase from RBC, as sports pitches to replace existing ones that are converted to a new student village. Only 60% of the growth in student numbers will, however, be accommodated on campus, creating even more housing & parking pressure on surrounding residential areas. RHUL’s initial “consultation” on the Master Plan was very short (officially until 21st June, although they accepted comments until 10th July) & a revised plan, along with the consultation results, was submitted to RBC on 28th July (as part of their LDF submission - see Page 4). Outline planning applications could then follow “within the next 2 years” for phased construction start in late 2011 & completion by end 2013.
