Precinct Carpark

The much-awaited planning application for the Waitrose/Travelodge project was submitted to RBC on 19th December 2008 and confirmed the developers confidence that the £35mm scheme (creating 200 jobs) will progress despite the current economic climate, claiming that “at a time of economic uncertainty, we are proposing a scheme that will see a significant investment of private sector cash into Egham”. The results of our review of the application can be seen below but the developers claim to have specifically addressed comments made by us, the Chamber of Commerce & the residents of Tudor Court (who will directly overlook the development) on their earlier draft proposals.

Copies of the full planning application can be found at the following link :

Consideration of the application at the RBC Planning Committee has been deferred for some time, while "issues are resolved with the applicant", chiefly relating to servicing access. Despite Travelodge announcing on 18/3 that they had "exchanged on the Egham hotel site", a Planning Committee review date was delayed but the application was finally approved at the 5th August meeting.

As of November 2009 the developers had still not signed the lease for the plot with RBC & thus construction unlikely to start before 2Q10. With an 18mths+ construction period (during which time there will be considerable disruption caused by the loss of the existing Precinct carpark), the scheme is ambitiuosly targeting opening by Christmas 2011?
