Non-Generic Medicine:- Please take part in an ePetition to the Prime Minister. From January 2010 new rules apply which will require pharmacists to substitute a generic version of a drug, whatever a doctor has written on your prescription. The petiton ask the PM to ensure that anti-epileptic drugs are excluded from these rules. Go to http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/epilepsygenerics
Petitioning the Prime Minister's office is one thing, but telling your stories about the above situation to a professional epilepsy organisation is quite another. The NSE (National Society for Epilepsy) has contacted the Guildford Epilepsy Branch, in the form of Angie King, who works in the NSE's Communications Department and her role is to try and get as much positive and proactive information for the NSE as she can and Angie was hoping some of you may be able to help her in this project. It doesn't have to be a switch from branded to generic, it can be from generic to generic or from generic to branded.
As you are probably aware, in January 2010 the Government will decide whether or not to exempt AEDs from its Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme. There has been a lot of anxiety around this subject from people who take AEDs. Angie was wondering if you or anyone you know has had a bad experiance after switching, for whatever reason, from their usual AED to another.
It would be really helpful if Angie could talk to anyone who had a bad experiance as a direct result of switching from one AED to another, as this would help to illustrate why we are so concerned that people always have access to their prescibed drug. If anyone is happy to talk to Angie, then she can be contacted on email address:- Angela.King@epilepsysociety.org.uk
