Elstead Commons - Proposed Enclosure for Cattle Grazing
Surrey Wildlife Trust propose to enclose the whole of Elstead, Royal, Bagmoor, Ockley and Thursley Commons, to allow the grazing of Belted Galloway cattle, as a means for maintaining and preserving the Commons as a heathland environment. The alternative of small temporary enclosures is opposed by the MoD.
This proposal has aroused opposition by some local horse riders and walkers, on safety grounds and as a possible restriction of the right of access.

A representative of Surrey Wildlife Trust was at the Elstead Parish Council Meeting on Monday April 23rd to discuss the proposals.
