Who Are Carers?

The term 'Carer' refers to someone who looks after or provides regular unpaid help to family members, neighbours or friends who are sick, disabled or elderly, and who would be unable to manage without the help of thier carer.
It is acknowledged that the greatest share of Community Care is done by Britain’s six million carers within isolation of their own homes.
Many people do not think of themselves as Carers and may not even like the label, but if you look after a relative, friend or neighbour who cannot manage without help because of sickness, age or disability, then you are a CARER.
Seeing yourself as a Carer can be a way of acknowledging that you do a job, one which may be both difficult and demanding.
We are able to offer support for Carers, in many different ways. Please see the 'About Our Organisation' page for more details of the services we provide.

Children and young people (under 18) who undertake caring responsibilites or who are affected by a caring situation are known as Young Carers, and have thier own support organisation in Surrey: Surrey Young Carers Project.
