About Brockham Choral Society .....
Although originally started in the first half of the 20th century, the choir in its present form was formed in 1952 as Brockham Christ Church Music Society, later taking its present name.
The choir itself consists of around 60-75 singers who come mainly from the Brockham and Dorking areas (though a number come from further afield). We don't hold auditions, but we aim for a high standard. We warmly welcome new members to the choir, and encourage anyone with an interest in choral singing to contact us. Whilst previous choral experience is valuable, a love of singing and a desire to learn are more important. Also, new members would find it very useful to have either the ability to read music, or a good ear!
We rehearse in Powell Corderoy School, Longfield Road, Dorking, on Tuesday evenings from September through to the following May, starting at 8.00 pm and finishing at 10.00 pm.
We give 3 concerts a year - major ones in March and December, and a smaller scale one in May, often including other local musicians. These concerts are normally in St Martin's Church, Dorking, or another local church.
Every other year we embark on a tour abroad - in 2004 we went to Brittany, in 2006 we went to Ghent and gave three concerts, one with the local Cantabile choir, who came to the UK to join us for our May concert this year. In 2008 we are planning to visit The Hague.
And as a friendly choir, we also like to have a number of social events through the year, including our Annual Dinner in February. Details of these are on our Noticeboard.
The choir is supported in its efforts by a number of Friends; details of these are on our Friends page.
